From Skepticism to Understanding My Experience with Shilajit Leading to Better Cognitive & Physical Health

Abstarct

Objective:

To evaluate the effects of shilajit on cognitive function, emotional regulation, and physical health through a week-long personal trial, and to explore its potential role in bridging physical well-being with mental and spiritual alignment.

Background Data:

Shilajit is a natural resin found primarily in the Himalayan mountains, long used in traditional medicine. It contains fulvic acid and essential minerals, which have been shown to support brain health, energy production, and cellular regeneration. Studies indicate that shilajit may enhance mitochondrial function, protect against oxidative stress, and improve cognitive performance. It has also been suggested to help stabilize neurotransmitter activity, leading to improved mental clarity and stamina.

Methods:

Over the course of a week, I consumed shilajit in its resin form daily, dissolved in hot water with milk, cinnamon, and honey. I tracked my physical, cognitive, and emotional responses throughout the trial, noting improvements in focus, energy levels, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. I remained mindful of my diet and routines to observe how shilajit influenced my day-to-day life.

Results:

The trial yielded several notable improvements:

•Cognitive Function: Enhanced focus, clarity, and decision-making ability. A newfound awareness of the influence of environmental cues (Zeitgebers) on mental and physical rhythms.

•Emotional Regulation: Increased ability to process emotions calmly, leading to personal breakthroughs and emotional relief.

•Physical Health: Sustained energy throughout long days, improved stamina, and a more intentional approach to nourishing the body. The effects were subtle but consistently positive, contributing to overall well-being.

Conclusion:

Shilajit proved to be more than just a supplement—it acted as a catalyst for deeper alignment between the mind, body, and spirit. This personal experience reinforced the existing scientific understanding of shilajit’s benefits on cognitive and physical health. The trial highlighted the importance of intentional supplementation in supporting holistic well-being, suggesting that shilajit could be an effective tool for those seeking to enhance both their physical and mental performance. This experience also pointed to further exploration of how environmental factors, such as Zeitgebers, can work in tandem with supplements to promote balance and clarity in daily life.

“What motivated me”

A few years ago, I was deeply immersed in my research, pushing myself to the limits. But, like many passionate individuals, I hit a wall and experienced burnout. It was difficult to step back and realize that my body couldn’t keep up with the intense mental and spiritual work I had been doing. I knew I couldn’t just dismiss everything I’d learned as a fleeting moment of psychosis—it was real. But I needed to find balance. After taking time to reflect, including breathwork, I realized that I had spent enough time in the spiritual realm and needed to focus on grounding myself in the physical.

This realization led me to begin my journey of balancing the mind, body, and spirit. Too much focus on one, like my research, without caring for the body, leads to oxidative stress and burnout. For me, this manifested through poor diet, alcohol and tobacco use, and physical strain from work. I needed to fix this imbalance. My body was burnt out, and it left me weak even when using my mind for basic tasks. I knew I couldn’t achieve my goals, like earning a Nobel Prize, if I didn’t restore balance.

I started with supplements—magnesium, B6, Vitamin E—but it wasn’t until I added shilajit that everything clicked. Shilajit became the final piece of the puzzle, giving me the clarity and strength to make aligned decisions and improve both my cognitive and physical health. Over four weeks of testing shilajit, along with my existing supplement routine and a quantum reset plan I’d designed, I experienced real, measurable improvements. This journey marked the beginning of my return to balance, where my mind, body, and spirit work together harmoniously.

How I Tested Shilajit

Over the course of a week, I consumed shilajit daily in its resin form, dissolved in hot water with milk (1%), cinnamon, and honey. During this time, I tracked my physical, cognitive, and emotional responses. I observed noticeable improvements in focus, energy levels, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

My Week with Shilajit

Sunday, 9/14

I was skeptical. I hadn’t taken Shilajit yet and I was convinced that I didn’t need any more supplements—I was fine without it, and maybe this product wasn’t even aligned with me. The thought of promoting something externally imposed felt foreign. Was I resisting growth by not giving it a chance? I decided to try it.

Monday, 9/15

I took Shilajit in its resin form—dissolving it in hot water, adding a splash of 1% milk, a dash of cinnamon, and some honey. Within an hour, I felt an unusual sensation—a slight fuzziness in my head but also a sense of being “switched on.” My stomach hurt at first, and I almost blamed the product, but my boyfriend suggested I take a spoonful of pot roast broth to help it settle. It worked. In five minutes, I felt better and more alert. He reminded me that it’s easy to blame something new before acknowledging my readiness to receive it. The rest of the day was great.

Tuesday, 9/16

I took it again, the same way. I noticed I could simply get up and go. I had made the smart decision to sleep on time, and that helped immensely. The effects were subtle but positive—I felt good, nothing extraordinary, just a gentle sense of readiness.

Wednesday, 9/17

This was an emotional day. Yet, I found myself able to recognize my emotions, sit with them, and calmly process them. I had a heartfelt conversation with my boyfriend, allowing us to understand each other more deeply. I realized I hadn’t been fully present in my body as much as I thought. The release brought tears—tears of relief. I felt lighter like I had shed a burden that was holding me back. The door to growth was finally open, and I thanked my boyfriend for his patience.

Thursday, 9/18

I became more spatially aware, even if just a bit. I made it a priority to eat with Shilajit, never taking it on an empty stomach. This naturally improved my energy levels, simply because I was more intentional about eating nutritious food. I wasn’t just eating out of habit; I was learning why nourishing my body was important. The day was filled with relaxation and intentional self-care.

Friday, 9/19

I took my Shilajit resin concoction again. That morning, I received an email from Word Trivia with my “Word of the Day”  introducing me to a new word: “Zeitgebers.” I was so excited.. Suddenly, everything clicked. The concept of Zeitgebers—environmental cues that influence our circadian rhythm—connected perfectly with what I was experiencing. Shilajit, combined with this new understanding, sparked a renewed sense of purpose in my research. I dug into exploring how these environmental cues, along with circadian rhythm, brain function, and emotional regulation, contribute to a balanced existence. The interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit became more apparent. I shared my insights on Instagram, wanting everyone to understand this newfound connection.

Saturday, 9/20 – Wednesday, 9/24

The following days were less about dramatic realizations and more about incorporating my new knowledge into my daily life. I prioritized natural sunlight, aligned my actions with intention, and put in more effort to be present. I had a full work week of serving and I also nannied that week and would be traveling to Nashville after, it was a busy week ending with a trip.  This meant long hours and being away from home. Despite this, I found that working with a child’s energy, staying active, and being fully engaged in life became much easier. I wasn’t tired—I had the energy to be truly present. I could make conscious decisions with clarity. It wasn’t that Shilajit was forcing me to act; rather, it had brought an awareness to my decision-making that made each choice more deliberate and aligned with my well-being.

__________________________________________________________________________________

What began as a simple trial led me to naturally dive deeper into understanding what shilajit was doing to my body and brain. I discovered the concept of Zeitgebers and realized how aligning my body to these cues helped me move and function optimally throughout the day. I also started to investigate how shilajit might be impacting neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, as well as mitochondrial function, which plays a crucial role in energy production and brain health.

Understanding how these elements work together gave me clarity on how to support my body’s needs. For example, I realized how sun-gazing, which I had done sporadically, was helping my Vitamin D levels, supporting both my immune and bone health. Shilajit became the cornerstone of a routine that helped me tie together all the nutrients and practices I needed to function as a “quantum computer,” allowing me to make conscious decisions, stay motivated, and regulate my emotions more effectively. This holistic approach to my health helped me in my personal life, especially in maintaining healthier relationships by reducing emotional outbursts and aligning my actions with my goals.

Important Concepts I Discovered

Zeitgebers:

Environmental cues, such as light and temperature, they regulate our internal biological clock or circadian rhythm. Knowing this is was important for me to choose not to stay up and go to sleep at an appropriate time. These natural rhythms are vital for aligning your body and mind. When your body operates in sync with these external cues, it enhances your ability to function more effectively and make better decisions. Recognizing the importance of these cues helped me structure my day for success, making my body operate in harmony with the environment.

Neurotransmitters:

•Dopamine: This neurotransmitter plays a key role in motivation and reward. Understanding how shilajit influenced dopamine helped me focus and feel more driven toward my goals.

•Serotonin: affects mood and emotional regulation. By learning how shilajit may impact serotonin production, I was able to maintain emotional stability, which helped improve my relationships and overall well-being.

Mitochondrial Function:

Mitochondria are the energy producers of cells, including brain cells. Healthy mitochondrial function is crucial for brain health, as it supports the energy needed to make conscious, aligned decisions. By improving mitochondrial function with shilajit, I experienced a significant boost in mental clarity, allowing me to be more present and intentional in my life. I was already using a Gingko tincture before this for mental clarity, I did not try the two together.

Nutrients Beneficial for Neurons

Looking at my diet was important, the main thing that stuck out during that time was my interest in cracking a raw egg. Usually, I only crave/want eggs when I feel I need to cleanse my body. One of the days while taking Shilajit after about 3 weeks of it, I was offered an egg by my boyfriend, I declined and had a bad day in regards to hormonal regulation. I was all over the place. My boyfriend suggested the next day I try an egg along with my Shilajit to replenish lost nutrients for when my body was beginning its cycle. This piqued my interest in nutrients that help with the brain.

•Raw Eggs: I started incorporating a raw egg into my morning routine for hormonal balance, especially as my period approached. This provided essential nutrients I was lacking, which contributed to better emotional regulation and avoided unnecessary conflicts or emotional outbursts.

•Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These are critical for brain health and cognitive function, supporting neurotransmitter production and overall mental clarity.

•Vitamin D: Important for bone and immune health, I also realized how sun exposure helped maintain my Vitamin D levels, enhancing my physical and emotional well-being.

•Lutein & Zeaxanthin: These antioxidants help protect brain cells from oxidative stress and improve cognitive function.

•Folate: Essential for brain health and emotional regulation, folate supports neurotransmitter production, contributing to improved mood and focus.

•Vitamin B6: This vitamin supports brain development and function, playing a role in neurotransmitter regulation, which is essential for mood stabilization.

By understanding what I was putting into my body and how each nutrient affected me, I was able to build a solid foundation for better health. This knowledge empowered me to make informed decisions that aligned with my goals, ensuring that I was providing my body with everything it needed to function at its best. In this way, shilajit became part of a broader journey toward improving my cognitive and physical health, as well as balancing mind, body, and spirit.

Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress became a significant focus of my research during this journey.

Before the introduction to Shilajit, I made an important lifestyle change—I stopped smoking weed about 3-4 months ago. This I believe cleared my energy enough to even be able to take on a project like this. My choice to stop smoking weed was to come back into my body, without making that choice myself I don’t think I would have been so open to receiving Shilajit or any other type of knowledge due to oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress refers to an imbalance between free radicals (uncharged molecules, that can build up/ think of them like wasted space) and antioxidants in the body, which can cause cellular damage, particularly to neurons. Smoking weed, like other environmental factors, can exacerbate oxidative stress, affecting brain function and overall well-being. By quitting, I took an essential step toward reducing the oxidative load on my body and began exploring other factors that contributed to oxidative stress.

Our phones also play a role in increasing oxidative stress. Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) from mobile phones emits radiofrequency radiation, which leads to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body, contributing to oxidative damage at the cellular level. While the scientific evidence is still being explored, prolonged exposure to EMR has been linked to disruptions in cellular processes.

Another contributor to oxidative stress is sleep disruption caused by the blue light emitted from phone screens. This blue light interferes with melatonin production, leading to poorer sleep quality, which in turn reduces the body’s ability to manage oxidative stress effectively.

Additionally, psychological stress plays a significant role. Excessive phone use, particularly through social media, can lead to stress, anxiety, and mental over-stimulation, indirectly contributing to oxidative stress. Chronic stress increases the production of stress hormones, which further elevates oxidative damage.

With Shilajit, it was a conscious choice to put the phone down. Which leads to preventing a sedentary lifestyle. That is another consequence of constant phone use. Increased screen time often leads to more inactivity, which lowers antioxidant defenses and exacerbates oxidative stress. By learning about these things, I was able to understand how deeply oxidative stress can impact not only our physical health but also our cognitive and emotional well-being.

We can even begin to hold resentment for others, or even for ourselves for not making do with the promises we make simply because we are tapped out. I don’t know why… This is why.

Results

Throughout the week-long trial of shilajit, plus 3 more weeks of incorporation and building of a new structure; I experienced noticeable improvements in various aspects of my health and well-being. My cognitive function improved, marked by enhanced focus, mental clarity, and motivation. I found myself more capable of making intentional decisions, and I felt more in tune with my environment, likely due to the effects of Zeitgebers and better alignment with my circadian rhythm.

Physically, I experienced sustained energy levels, reduced physical fatigue, and an overall sense of well-being. My emotional regulation also improved, allowing me to process emotions more calmly and maintain healthier relationships, particularly in avoiding unnecessary conflict.

As I integrated these changes, I recognized the importance of creating a routine that supports continuous growth and helps me move forward. Establishing a structure became key to changing my reality and elevating my frequency. I developed a new relationship between practice and outcomes—understanding that consistent effort and awareness lead to real transformation.

This process led me to explore The 4 Zones of Growth, or to be more open to receiving:

•Comfort Zone: Where things feel safe but stagnant.

•Fear Zone: The barriers we face—fear of failure, judgment, and insecurity.

•Learning Zone: Where new skills are gained, and mistakes become valuable lessons.

•Growth Zone: Where you find purpose and reach new levels of success.

Every time I stepped out of my comfort zone, I moved closer to my goals. If I felt stuck, I realized I was likely in the Fear Zone, and pushing through that discomfort allowed me to reach the Learning and Growth Zones. Growing and changing require us to face challenges that may seem hard at the moment, but through trial, error, and continued practice, we grow into a new frequency and emerge stronger.

By incorporating shilajit into my daily life, I was able to reconnect with myself and make decisions that were in true alignment, rather than excuses to stay comfortable. This new routine helped me move past fear and stagnation, reinforcing the importance of addressing our physical and emotional well-being before attempting to shift our frequency. When we nourish ourselves with the right nutrients, emotional care, and structure, making aligned, conscious decisions becomes much easier. The question we should always ask ourselves is:

Are we charged enough in our current state to make a real change in frequency?
